"In a world which treats single mothers and their children as invisible consider this dilemma:"Sarah, a mother, has AIDS. Her eight year old daughter does not. Despite illness and weakness, this mother uses her precious remaining months to find her child a new mother and home. "This is the story we urgently wanted out listeners to understand-- The Forgotten Mothers and Children of the AIDS Epidemic. This interview and call-in so stunned our listeners, we were flooded with calls and letters during and long after our special report was aired. "And now our community, along with others across the country, must face how best to support mothers and their children of such a critical time. "Unknown to our listeners is the fact that our consulting producer, Janice Grundel, has now volunteered to adopt Sarah's eight year old daughter, Rachel, when Sarah dies. "What happens to the mothers and children who are still searching? How we answer the question will say a great deal about who and what we choose to value."--1994 Peabody Awards entry form.
